FAQ

moodflx is a smartphone app focused on mental fitness. moodflx is the world’s first mood navigation system. It is not just another wellness solution or ‘mood tracker’ – rather, it uses our lifestyle data, including physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep patterns, screen time, weather, and light; to identify the triggers and trends that impact our moods. Our collaboration with Deakin University has ensured that a wealth of science underpins the platform and experience.

‘Flx’ is the persona created for the moodflx screen.

The AIA Vitality team is looking to bring moodflx onto the programme for AIA Vitality customers. This trial is being conducted to test moodflx’s usability, analytics, engagement, and messaging. Your participation in the trial will help refine these elements – ultimately helping AIA to make a difference in people’s lives when we launch moodflx to AIA Vitality customers.

The trial will be led by Dr Natalie Lander, a Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University. Dr Natalie Lander will be evaluating the project from a research perspective. The moodflx team has members from Deakin University, Sayers Group and Legacy Apps, who will be in the background overseeing this process.

The trial will last for 6 weeks, from Monday, 20 September 2021 until
Friday, 29 October 2021.

1. Download the moodflx app, using the link provided in your launch email.
2. Navigate through the app’s introductory screens and welcome page, then create your own profile and link yourself to your company (AIA) and team.
3. It is up to you what data from your smartphone, you sync with moodflx (e.g., weather, sleep, screen time, physical activity). The data you sync will allow ‘Flx’ to make the connections between your behaviour and environment, and your mood.
4. Once you’ve downloaded, setup and have synced your data to ‘Flx’, use the app to check-in with how you are feeling, by entering your mood a few times each day.

It’s up to you how many times you input your mood each day, but for best results, moodflx would like you to check in 3-4 times per day. The more data ‘Flx’ gets (i.e., mood inputs and synced data), the more insights that are provided on the cool dashboards that only you have access to, a kind of personal mental fitness trainer in your pocket.

The insights get more accurate with time. The more you use moodflx, the more accurate the insights. You can also journal about your mood after each mood input.

Your data is anonymous. The researchers at Deakin will receive a de-identified CVS spreadsheet. This will allow the researchers to analyse the mood input and contexts, to identify associations and changes over time. Your personal information will not be accessible at any stage, and will not be used in any reporting or publication of findings.

Your data is anonymous. AIA have delegated moodflx leaders for the trial, they will receive aggregated data sets around group level moods and contexts. Your identity will remain anonymous throughout the entire trial.

This is totally up to you. Remember that the more data moodflx has access to (i.e., synced weather, activity, sleep and screen as well as regular mood inputs), the more personalised insights you receive.

If you would like to sync your data (e.g., physical activity, sleep, screen time and weather), you need to use the device that best captures and enables this. By syncing these contextual data you will receive more accurate insights about what contexts influence your mood.

This is totally up to you. All data is anonymous unless you choose otherwise, any data moodflx accesses is permissioned by you, and you choose when to engage with moodflx.

For the trial purpose, if you choose to not be anonymous – your responses will be recorded as “tester”. This is a default setting for this trial, and will protect your anonymity throughout the trial.

Mood data will only be collected from participants who agree. Your decision about whether you take part or not, will not affect your relationship with AIA, or the moodflx team in any way. Remember, all data is anonymous, any data we access is permissioned by you, and you choose when to engage with moodflx.

The information collected will be anonymised. moodflx always defaults to anonymous, asks permission to access your data, and gives you full autonomy on when you check-in. The trial results will be used to further develop moodflx’s analytic algorithms and usability to improve the experience for our AIA Vitality members.

Following trial completion, focus group sessions will be run with a handful of consenting trial participants to delve further into their experience with moodflx.

AIA Vitality is working with the moodflx team to bring the functionality into the AIA Vitality programme. Your feedback on the useability will be crucial to fine-tune the proposition for members.

Not for this pilot trial - but once the functionality is launched into the AIA Vitality programme, we expect moodflx will be points earning.
